Summer Hiatus...

So I have not been at my sewing machine...had a paint brush in my hand or been or any sort of thrift store. Summer kicks my A%&!! Having the kids here ALL THE TIME and spending many afternoons at the pool/Target/putt-putt/lake...anywhere but home really, have out a real damper on my hobbies. So I am taking a Summer Hiatus. I will get back to the grind in the fall! I makes me a little sad...as I type this I actually have a frown on my face. Boo Hoo!!

So instead of posting my usual bargain finds and sewing creations I'll just post random things that we are doing!

Our latest exciting addition to the family...2 cute kitties!! Sadie and Wolfie are their names and playing is their game! They are cute and have adapted well to Sophie and Ethan carrying them ALL OVER THE HOUSE! So here is a little pic of them today...

They LOVE each other....and stick together all day long!!

lazy, lazy summer...

I am finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning much less blog. And even less motivated to sit at the sewing machine. So, with that said I haven't done much as of late. Hopefully that will change as we get used to the schedule of summer. I do have an order for 6 bags so I plan to finish those this week. Will post picks soon....

This fabric is Gypsy Bandana by Michael Miller! How cute would it be as curtains and a bedskirt in a little girls room too??

Mothers Day!!

What an awesome Mothers Day we had. I have to say this one was the best. The kids told me all day "Happy Mothers Day". It was so sweet. Jason literally did EVERYTHING that day and I just laid around. But first it started at the Peninsula Yacht Club for some yummy brunch with Jason's parents.

THe whole gang,

Our little family...Sophie would not take that thumb out of her mouth!

You got that where??

Yes it has happened again....I found a great find.

This adorable corner table. I have been wanting to do a blueish gray paint color but I have been putting it off because those colors aren't in my house. So I have been waiting for me to find a piece of furniture that wasn't going to fit in my house. So I ran over to Ace Hardware and ordered up a fabulous paint color. Anywho, I am still painting but here is a little sneak peak...

Coffee Filter Wreath

So I have been wanting to try this for a while. I have seen it on other blogs and so today was the day...

This is basically it, I purchased a round styrofoam wreath and coffee filters. I had the hot glue gun and glue sticks.

So with the coffee filters fold them in half and then fold that in half. You could take it a step further and fold that in half. That's totally a personal preference. I did both.

You kinda start around the top edge and just work your way around spacing how you see fit.

A view from above...

The finished product.....I.LOVE.IT! I used white filters...but I think that the brown ones would be an awesome vintage look.

While I was working away Ethan had his own crafty moment....He turned the coffee filters into garages for his cars. I was a proud mama!!

Just found a great piece for my "You Got That Where?" blog. Will post tomorrow!!

Pin tucked pillow

So when I was exploring blog land last night I cam across this great picture of an adorable crib with adorable pillows...

But I L-O-V-E-D this one. So I ran (literally) up to my sewing room scowered through my fabric basket and found fabric that matches my master bedroom. So as Ethan watched Witches of Waverly Place for the 100th time I began to pin and tuck! Here is a lil tutorial on how I did it. BEWARE: This is my first tutorial.

So first I marked it with a super fancy crayola washable marker, just a small dot. I did them about 4 inches apart and then on a staggered pattern. Kinda like a brick lay pattern.

Next I took my needle and straddled the "dot" and pulled up until the fabric made "tent"

Here is the "tent". Kinda blurry but as the fabric come into the "tent" pinch it with your fingers so that you have folds of fabric in between your fingers. Then stitch like a mad lady...over and over and over and over. At this point you could take it to your machine and straight stitch/back stitch over and over. But I enjoyed sitting in front of the t.v. and doing it by hand. Cra-Cra, I know!

This is what it should look like after you have finished stitching and laid it flat.

And the entire piece pin tucked...
I then cut a piece the same size as the newly pin tucked front piece and sewed them together. You could always do the same to the back and have it pin tucked all around but I wanted to do it just on one side.

And the final product!! I-LOVE-IT. And it was soooooo easy!

I didn't use a specific pillow size I just had a piece of fabric and I squared it off and stuffed it with batting. I am really happy with the final product!!

New Blog....

So I finally decided to anty up and buy a blog template...that was all mine. Well, that's like $100...on the cheaper end. So as thrifty as I am I found this great site that has $10 blogs. Okay, so its not ALL mine....but its better than what I had! So I love and hope you do too.

Here's the website...

'When is the rabbit coming?"

That is what Sophie keeps asking me...it just took a few times of her saying it for me to "get" what she was saying. When is the Easter Bunny coming....gotcha!!

So in preparation for Easter we dyed eggs today! It was...shall I say...okay!

1.Ethan and Sophie thought that the dye smelled bad....and it did.
2.We didn't have enough vinegar to we had to rotate the eggs in the dye...that was annoying.
3.and the final product was just some colored eggs.

BUT...I loved doing it with them. And we now have pretty colored eggs.

Since my newest obsession is going on the local Goodwill once a week I thought that I would start a weekly blog called

Stay tuned!

HOLY CRAP!!!

Guess how much this chair was???

$20

Yep....I couldn't believe that either. So I had to buy it, didn't need it, but had to buy it!! For 1 it matches my house, and for 2 it was $20!!

The kicker is....THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I was like a brand new chair. But it still got completely stripped down and scrubbed down and washed. Something about buying a used chair and not knowing where it last lived....yuck! But a little soap and water and some frebreeze and VOILA....Clean!

I have to say that I think this is the best find to date. I still can't believe that I paid $20 for it!

**UPDATE**

So remember that awesome table that I found at the Goodwill for $8. This is the finished product. My brother and his wife loved it. Even a few neighbors stopped by as I was working on it wondering if they could buy it. That put a little smile on my face!!

Baby got back...

I would post a pic but I am afraid of pervs...lol

All I can say is "bless her heart"

Sophie started gymnastics last week. For her birthday she got a new leotard. One problem: it is constantly up her hiney. All I did today at the gym was pull it out and over that cute little rump.

So what did I do you ask?....went and bought her this one. Which still rides up....

So what am I doing tomorrow you ask?....going to buy a bigger size, Again!

Will update later on the hiney coverage.....

Miss Thang turns 3!

We had a gymnastics party at Everest Gymnastics. It was FAN-freakin-TASTIC!! Everyone has a blast and they really had it all together there. I have written off anymore birthday parties at our house. I am done with all of the hours and hours of cleaning preparing and then the hours and hours of cleaning after the party. Not to mention the tremendous amounts of noise that echo through the house. I know...bah humbug....but it is what it is.

Putting this one in the back pocket for maybe next year....Ethan is already asking if he can have his birthday at Chuck E Cheese.....shoot me now....

What I have been up to...

As I have said before my third love is refinishing furniture. Well this is my latest find. A whopping $5 at the Habitat Restore. I forgot to take a before picture but it was you typical 1985 orangey brown stain. Not quite my style....so a little
1. A.LOT of sanding
2. Primer--one coat
3. ACE Premium Enamel Antique white--one coat
4. Antiquing stain...something I have had for years....slap it on, literally, let it sit for a minute and wipe with a rag leaving it in those cracks and crevices.

The top even had a huge chunk missing and I crammed some antiquing stuff all in there and I loved how it turned out. Was a little worried about that...

Missing some nobs but haven't found any I love...

I just love it. Looks perfect next the chair in our living room!!

Link up???? hmmmm....

I have a lot of blogs that I follow and every now and again they will say that they are "linking up" with another blog, or multiple blogs....I have no idea what that means?? Anyone, Anyone?

HURRAY!!!!!!!

We had Ethan's 4 year old conference today at his preschool....and, wait for it....wait for it

HE IS CLEARED FOR KINDERGARDEN!

Whew.....although, I really had no doubts there is always that itty bitty part way back far in my head that thought...what if they say he is not ready? But thankfully that didn't happen. We are relieved! Now onto the wait to see if he gets into Community School of Davidson...February 28th can't get here soon enough! Fingers crossed!

Sewing closet redo...FINALLY!!

Since we have a fairly small house I have resorted to the closet in the playroom. There are a lot of things in my life that are a mess, my hair might not always be clean, the laundry might not always be done, or the dish washer emptied...BUT...my house in ALWAYS in order. I am a little neurotic about it but I cannot stand clutter. I mean I could have a pretty decent space in the playroom. but if I had to walk in there and see all my sewing stuff out and about....I would have to double up on my anxiety meds....lordy!

So...I am making it work and I LOVE IT!! My own 2' x 8' heaven!

I have had a friend contact me to make her crib bedding and I am super excited about it...will post pics on my progress.

While Ethan was in the shower with Jason....

He said, "daddy what are those?", Jason said, "those are my testicles, you have them too." Ethan proceeds to check out his man land and says,"hmmmm, I only have one little one." Jason,"no you have 2." Ethan, "oh okay, WOW daddy yours must be really old!"

Awesome...note to self....no more showers with Ethan!
